Bakersfield
Major Havey Hall's Thoughts for 2008
As Mayor of Bakersfield, I am honored to be a part of SOUL
of Bakersfield. I wish to extend my wishes to everyone for
a healthy and prosperous new year. I am proud to be mayor
of the 11th largest city in California, with a population
in excess of 323,000.
With single-digit unemployment, our business prosperity
continues. During 2007, I attended 55 ribbon cutting ceremonies
for new or renovated businesses. I am currently serving
the last year of my second term as the 25th mayor of Bakersfield.
I was raised in Bakersfield and enjoy living here. When
I first ran for mayor in 2000, I did so because I wanted
to make a difference and give back to the community that
has given me so much. My goal in life is to make each day
better than the day before.
Bakersfield is a city of diversity and I try to be mayor
for all people. I attend many multi-cultural functions each
year and try to take back with me as much of the positive
from each as possible. What I have learned through these
shared experiences is that we are more alike than we are
different. Everyone wants to be treated respectfully and
honored for being the wonderful human beings we all are.
During the coming year, I hope to keep you informed about
what is going on in and around Bakersfield to improve the
quality of life for individuals and families. I welcome
suggestions on topics of interest and look forward to hearing
any feedback from the readers of SOUL of Bakersfield. Until
next time, let’s work together for unity in the community!
